SCULPTRA® a biostimulator to improve skin quality
What is Sculptra®?
Sculptra® is a biostimulator consisting of poly-L-lactic acid. After injecting the active ingredient into the skin, a stimulation of collagen production in the deep layers of the skin can be observed. The injection of the active ingredient leads to regeneration of the skin and natural plumping from the inside. As a result, a smoother and rejuvenated appearance can be achieved. In contrast to other filler treatments, Sculptra® enables long-term results as collagen production is stimulated over a longer period of time. The volume increase can therefore last for several years.
Treatment with Sculptra® promotes collagen production and thus leads to an increase in volume. Sunken areas of the face regain fullness and appear younger and fresher. At the same time, the elasticity, density and firmness of the tissue are improved. Depending on the individual situation, the result can last for two to four years, in some cases even longer. In the following period, a slow regression occurs, which depends on the individual’s genetic predisposition, environmental influences and personal lifestyle. Please note that the effect slowly disappears over time. As a rule, however, up to 50 % of the result is permanently retained.
Sculptra® is not a pure filling material with an immediate effect, such as hyaluronic acid or autologous fat, but a stimulant for the body’s own new collagen formation. Please note that the final result will only be visible after a certain period of time. This usually takes several months, although a longer period is also possible. As a rule, two sessions are required to achieve the desired result. In some cases, up to four sessions are required to achieve the desired result.
Sculptra can be used in a variety of ways, both on the face and the body
Sculptra® is the perfect choice for anyone looking for a non-surgical skin rejuvenation solution! If you are bothered by your wrinkles or sagging skin, this treatment may be the perfect solution for you! The biostimulator is used in particular for volume loss in various areas of the face. The different areas of application of Sculptra® include:
- sunken cheeks
- sunken temples
- Wrinkles on the chin
- Marionette pleats
- Nasolabial folds
- Contouring the Jawline
Advantages and disadvantages
The decisive advantage of Sculptra®: It works for a very long time, on average two years and longer.
In contrast to fillers, missing volume is not immediately compensated for by the injected material, but by the natural build-up of the body’s own collagen. However, this process takes several weeks. The effect is therefore very natural and usually lasts for a period of two years, although our own experience shows that it sometimes lasts considerably longer – in some cases even forever.
A disadvantage of Sculptra® is that only certain areas of the face such as large deep wrinkles, sunken facial areas, cheeks and temples can be injected, but not small, fine wrinkle lines. Sculptra® is not suitable for lip or eyelid lifting.
In summary, Sculptra® is an optimal substance for long-lasting results on the face for deep wrinkles, sunken areas of the face and the décolleté. In contrast to other fillers, however, it takes a certain amount of time to achieve the final result, which lasts for a very long time (years).
Behavior after treatment with Sculptra®
As a rule, the patient is soon fit for social life and work again after treatment. It is recommended to refrain from physically strenuous activities and sports for a period of one to two weeks. It is also essential to protect the treated areas from heat and UV radiation. Regular massages are also an essential part of the aftercare, which serve to distribute the biostimulator evenly in the skin, and the treatment areas should be massaged for 5 minutes 2-3 times a day for the first 5 days. The optimal massage techniques will be explained after the treatment.
When you should refrain from treatment with Sculptra
- With a tendency to keloids or granulomas
- For inflamed or infected skin (e.g. cold sores)
- If you are taking medication to thin the blood (e.g. Aspirin, Marcoumar, Xarelto)
- In the case of a systemic disease – autoimmune disease, diabetes, rheumatism, etc.
- Pregnant women, nursing mothers or adolescents under the age of 18 are not treated.
What risks, side effects and contraindications need to be considered?
SCULPTRA® is characterized by excellent tolerability, so that an allergy test is not necessary. There may be slight swelling and reddening of the skin in the first 24 hours after treatment. As with any injection, small hematomas may form at the injection sites.
